چکیده

We consider a problem dealing with the efficient delivery of Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT) to individual patients. IMRT treatment planning is usually performed in three phases. The first phase determines a set of beam angles through which radiation is delivered, followed by a second phase that determines an optimal radiation intensity profile (or fluence map). This intensity profile is selected to ensure that certain targets receive a required amount of dose while functional organs are spared. In order to deliver these intensity profiles to the patient, a third phase must decompose them into a collection of apertures and corresponding intensities. In this paper, we investigate this last problem. Formally, an intensity profile is represented as a nonnegative integer matrix; an aperture is represented as a binary matrix whose ∗Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering, University of Florida, 303 Weil Hall, P.O. Optimal Sequencing of Dynamic Multileaf Collimators

Dynamic multileaf collimator (DMLC)-intensity modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) is used to delivery intensity-modulated beams using an MLC, with the leaves in motion. DMLC-IMRT requires the conversion of a radiation fluence map into a leaf sequence file that controls the movement of the MLC while the beam is on. It is imperative that the fluence map delivered using the leaf sequence file be as...

The Dosimetric Effects of Different Multileaf Collimator Widths on Physical Dose Distributions

Introduction: Geometric changes in the multileaf collimator (MLC) led to dosimetric considerations in intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) due to the number and size of the pixels in the intensity map, which are determined by the MLC leaf width. In this study, we evaluated the dosimetric effects of different MLC widths on physical dose distributions for IMRT plans. Materials and Method...

A Monte Carlo based phase space model for quality assurance of intensity modulated radiotherapy incorporating leaf specific characteristics.

Dose calculations for intensity modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) require an accurate description of the radiation field defined by the multileaf collimator. A previously developed Monte Carlo phase space model has been modified to provide accurate dose verification for IMRT treatments on a Novalis linear accelerator. We have incorporated into the model the effects of the multileaf collimator ...

Leaf sequencing algorithms for segmented multileaf collimation.

The delivery of intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) with a multileaf collimator (MLC) requires the conversion of a radiation fluence map into a leaf sequence file that controls the movement of the MLC during radiation delivery. It is imperative that the fluence map delivered using the leaf sequence file is as close as possible to the fluence map generated by the dose optimization algor...

A deliverable four-dimensional intensity-modulated radiation therapy-planning method for dynamic multileaf collimator tumor tracking delivery.

PURPOSE To develop a deliverable four-dimensional (4D) intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) planning method for dynamic multileaf collimator (MLC) tumor tracking delivery. METHODS AND MATERIALS The deliverable 4D IMRT planning method involves aligning MLC leaf motion parallel to the major axis of target motion and translating MLC leaf positions by the difference in the target centroid...
